The Intelligent Practising Method

Learning how to practise changes more than your playing.

Our students are taught a repeatable way of working: plan the session, diagnose the real problem, change one thing at a time, verify it held. That loop trains attention, self-observation and calm under pressure — skills that carry straight into school, exams and work.

Focus you can rely on

A written checklist and a clear plan for every session remove the guesswork that makes attention wander. Students who struggle to concentrate get an external structure first, then internalise it — attention becomes a trained skill rather than a mood.

Control over the way you think

Practice is treated as a diagnostic activity: notice the problem, name it, choose the intervention, verify the result. That loop is metacognition — students learn to observe and steer their own thinking instead of repeating effort blindly.

Flow state, on purpose

Flow appears when challenge and skill are matched and feedback is immediate. The method engineers those conditions deliberately — small, well-sized tasks with instant self-assessment — so immersion becomes repeatable rather than accidental.

Results beyond the instrument

Parents consistently report the transfer: calmer homework sessions, better exam preparation, stronger performance under pressure at school and, for adult students, sharper concentration and stamina at work. The habits are general-purpose; the violin is simply where they are trained.

Why a properly sized instrument matters.

“Properly sized” means the violin or viola fits the player so they can hold and play it comfortably, with correct posture and hand position. A good fit makes learning easier, improves tone and intonation, and prevents tension or injury.

  • ·Body & scale size — fractional sizes from 1/16 → 4/4 for violins, with similar fractions for violas.
  • ·Neck & fingerboard length — determines reach and spacing between notes.
  • ·String action & set-up — string height, bridge shape and nut height; affects playability even when the size is close.
  • ·Accessories — chinrest, shoulder rest and small fittings that help the instrument sit on the player’s body.

Wholeheartedly recommend Dominik as a violin teacher! Over the past years, he has been an incredible mentor for my son, helping him achieve remarkable progress with the instrument. Dominik’s lessons are always constructive and productive, filled with clear instructions that guide us on what to focus on during practice at home. His dedication to fostering a supportive learning environment has made a significant difference in my son's musical journey (which has finally started)!!! Additionally, my 7yo, who has ADHD, has particularly benefited from Dominik's patient and understanding approach. Learning the violin can be challenging, but Dominik's calming demeanor and tailored teaching methods have resonated well with Rafy. He has created a space where Rafy feels comfortable expressing himself and exploring his musical interests. It's been heartwarming to see Rafy not only grow in skill but also develop a genuine passion for the violin. Dominik's professionalism and ability to connect with students of all ages make him an outstanding teacher. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, he is truly dedicated to helping his students excel. If you’re seeking a talented and compassionate violin instructor, look no further—Dominik is the perfect choice!

Dominik is a very professional musician and teacher. My son has made huge progress in the two and half years he has been with Dominik. Lessons are always constructive and productive with clear instructions on what to focus on in the practice sessions at home. Violin is a very difficult instrument and parents support on regular basis, especially in beginners level, is essential. Whether a child can have the passion as well as excel in playing an instrument is not only the music teachers responsibility, but also the parents’. Being a piano player who knows nothing about string instruments, I feel that both my son and my learning are well supported by Dominik’s very professional teaching. I would recommend Dominik to anyone who wants to learn violin.

I highly recommend Dominik. His teaching methods are very effective! He is very patient, dedicated to his students and always finds a way for them to practice effectively. My son has improved so much since he started lessons with him. Not only Dominik prepares his students for exams but to also perform in a professional atmosphere. We travel 2 hours each week for violin lessons and I must say it’s absolutely worth it!!

Dominik has taught violin to our two boys since they were in primary school. He is an excellent teacher who focuses on correct technique and an understanding of the music being played. Would recommend him to anyone serious about learning violin properly

Questions, answered

A few common ones

How long is a weekly lesson?
Standard one-to-one lessons run 45 or 60 minutes. We also offer a 30-minute starter slot for young beginners.
Do I need my own instrument first?
Not at all. We rent properly sized violins and violas by the month, and you can switch sizes any time as you grow.
What does ‘properly sized’ actually mean?
It means the instrument fits the player so they can hold and play it comfortably with correct posture and hand position. A good fit makes learning easier, improves tone and intonation, and prevents tension or injury.
What age do students typically start?
We teach from age 5 through adult. Each program is shaped around the student, never the other way around.
